Announcing The Golden Box Office Awards!
For the first time ever, Telefilm Canada will be handing out the Golden Box Office Award, created to honour the English-language feature film with the highest grossing domestic box office sales from the previous year, created to recognize and support the box office achievement of a director and screenwriter(s).
The Goldie is also a cash prize totalling $40,000.
The Guichet d’or, awarding the highest-grossing French-language film, was handed out from a Montreal police station in March to the director and co-writers behind De père en flic.
And the Winners Are…
Telefilm will award the first-ever Goldie to Mike Clattenburg, director, and his co-writers John Paul Tremblay, Robb Wells, Mike Smith, and Timm Hannebohm of Trailer Park Boys: Countdown to Liquor Day!
The second feature film for this franchise with a cult following on both sides of the border, Trailer Park Boys: Countdown to Liquor Day grossed $1.32 million in its opening weekend alone, opening in the third spot across Canada.
The film would go on to gross $2.9 million in total.
The first-ever Goldie award ceremony will be held in Halifax, NS on June 25 at 10: 30 a.m.
Carolle Brabant, Executive Director, Stephanie Azam, National Feature Film Executive, and master of ceremonies Gord Whittaker, Regional Director, Business Development, Atlantic Canada will on be on hand for the presentation.
