Telefilm Canada supports the production of nine new English-language feature films for a total amount of $13.8 million

Montreal, July 3, 2013 − Telefilm Canada announces its support for the production of nine English-language feature films from all regions of the country through the Canada Feature Film Fund (CFFF). The total amount granted to produce the projects retained, for the fourth quarter of 2012-2013, is $13.8 million.

“From drama to comedy to science fiction, the selection of films is very diverse and features marquee talent,” said Carolle Brabant, Executive Director of Telefilm Canada. “Directors Atom Egoyan and Paul Gross are back, while new talent such as Nick Powell, Ana Valine and Peter Stebbings will also have a chance to spotlight their work. Our Canadian producers will additionally have an opportunity to work with China, France and Germany thanks to the coproductions Outcast and Hector and the Search for Happiness.”

Bunker 6

Bunker 6 is a dramatic science fiction thriller. Grace has called the nuclear fall-out shelter #6 her home since the atomic bombs went off 10 years ago. When her mentor and father figure Lewis, the bunker’s technician, dies she’s left to take charge. As things begin to breakdown around her and murders start to happen she must struggle not just to survive, but to live. For Grace thoughts of the outside world beyond the heavy blast doors of the bunker could be her demise and to all those who remain with her.

Setting aside their differences, Aarken and Gallain once again fight side by side in an epic and unwinnable battle against Shing and his forces - only this time they are fighting for something they both believe in.

In Atom Egoyan’s new thriller, Queen of the Night, Ryan Reynolds plays “Matthew”, the father of an abducted child, “Cass”. In a terrifying race against time, Matthew, the detectives, and even Cass herself must play their parts in unraveling the mystery of her disappearance and freeing her from captivity.

Sitting on the Edge of Marlene is a darkly comedic feature film drama that centres on a mother-daughter con artist duo. The story is told through the eyes of 16-year-old Sammie, a clean-living but quirky survivor, obsessed with death and living with her pill-popping, alcoholic con-artist mother Marlene. It is a bittersweet and emotional journey that deals with dysfunction, love and addiction and ends with an unusual deliverance for the compelling mother and daughter duo.
