Telefilm Canada announces Launch of Production Component for French-Language Creators Working in Canada outside Quebec

Montreal – October 29, 2008 – Telefilm is pleased to announce the launch of the production component for French-language creators working in Canada outside the province of Quebec and calls for applications to be submitted by the deadline of November 25, 2008.

This production component falls under Telefilm‘s Official Languages Activities Program (OLA), which groups together industry development initiatives under one brand. These initiatives were developed in the context of the Department of Canadian Heritage’s Interdepartmental Partnership with the Official Language Communities (IPOLC) agreement, which was renewed with Telefilm last year for a total of $1.1 million. Telefilm has committed $1.2 million over two years, which brings the total of monies for OLA initiatives to $2.3 million.

The objectives of this production component are to give eligible Francophone producers and directors, working in Canada outside Quebec, the opportunity to produce feature film projects that have the potential to attract audiences and to expand the existing pool of these creators outside Quebec. Launched as part of the Quebec Office’s strategic plan, this initiative is also aimed at diversifying the genres of productions available from this sub-market.

Eligible projects will be evaluated by a selection committee that will make a recommendation to Telefilm. The final selection of projects will be made by Telefilm, taking into consideration both the committee’s report and the applicants’ track record. This initiative will disperse an envelope of $500,000 amongst the selected projects.

Guidelines and eligibility criteria are available on Telefilm’s website under Official Languages Activities Program. Projects must be submitted to the Quebec office by 5 p.m. on November 25, 2008.
