Dedicated to encouraging established audiovisual professionals within the Aboriginal cultural community to move into the creation of feature film, this program was developed in consultation with Aboriginal industry representatives and targets projects at various stages of development.  Projects will benefit at each critical stage from a combination of training, professional development and personalized mentorship activities as well as financial support.

Elizabeth Friesen, Chief Operating Officer, Telefilm is delighted with the response this program has received, stating, “It is inspiring to see such commitment from the community.  Telefilm’s work with APTN has clearly addressed a need for committed resources within the Aboriginal community.”

The primary objective of the Featuring Aboriginal Stories Program is to provide financial support to Aboriginal projects thereby increasing the diversity of the feature film development portfolio. Ultimately these projects once developed could move on to be supported by CFFF production programs.

Telefilm has committed $1.2 million and the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network has committed $750,000 over three years to this program.
“We are very proud of the calibre projects submitted and this speaks to the breadth of talent and stories that exist in the Aboriginal community, “stated Peter Strutt, Director of Programming at APTN.
