JUMP IN THE ACTION with the Écrire au long initiative

Montreal, July 28, 2008 – The Écrire au long initiative is back for a third straight year. Telefilm Canada, with the participation of the Department of Canadian Heritage, provides Francophone writers, writer-directors and producers living outside Quebec or in Quebec but outside Montreal, the opportunity to obtain financing for the development of a feature film project and hone their skills in this genre through training workshops and professional support.

This initiative, part of Telefilm’s Official Language Activities (OLA) Program, is aimed at expand the pool of talented Francophone creators from these regions and allow the visual content developers to pursue fiction feature projects that have the potential to reach audiences in their communities, across the country and the world.

To this end, Telefilm Canada has modified some of the eligibility rules so that a greater number of Francophone creators have access to the program.

Since its creation in 2006, twenty French-language projects from Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, New Brunswick and British Columbia have enjoyed the support of Telefilm Canada at the pre-development stage. Among these projects, six have received a development assistance of $20,000 for the writing of a first draft.

Developing and promoting the Canadian audiovisual industry
Telefilm Canada is a federal cultural agency dedicated to developing and promoting the Canadian audiovisual industry. Telefilm provides financial support to the private sector to create distinctively Canadian productions that appeal to domestic and international audiences. The Corporation also administers the funding programs of the Canadian Feature Film Fund, the Canadian Television Fund and the Canada New Media Fund.
