Official statement from Telefilm Canada regarding an agreement reached with the Montreal World Film Festival

Montreal, October 1, 2007 - An agreement has been reached between Telefilm Canada and the Montreal World Film Festival (WFF) regarding funding for 2007-2008.

The agreement calls for Telefilm to provide a maximum of $249,000 in financing for the 31st edition of the WFF, which includes electronic subtitling.

In light of Telefilm’s objective to be an accountable and effective administrator of public funds, negotiations between the two parties featured extended discussions concerning the WFF meeting the Corporation’s terms and conditions, including the immediate implementation of measures to enhance corporate governance and strengthen financial controls.

Developing and promoting the Canadian audiovisual industry
Telefilm Canada is a federal cultural agency dedicated to the development and promotion of the Canadian audiovisual industry. Telefilm provides financial support to the private sector to create distinctively Canadian productions that appeal to domestic and international audiences. The Corporation also administers the funding programs of the Canadian Television Fund.
