Telefilm announces four premieres – one world, one international and two Asian – of Canadian films at 12th annual Pusan International Film Festival

Montreal, September 4, 2007 – Telefilm Canada is pleased to announce that four Canadian feature films have been officially selected for the 12th edition of the Pusan International Film Festival, which takes place in Pusan, South Korea from October 4-12, 2007. In 12 years, Pusan has become one of Asia’s largest film festivals.

The Festival will host the world premiere of Le Ring, the dramatic feature directorial debut of Anaïs Barbeau-Lavalette; the international premiere of Normal, directed by Carl Bessai; and the Asian premieres of L’Âge des ténèbres, the conclusion of Denys Arcand’s trilogy, and Contre toute espérance by Bernard Émond. Le Ring will be screened in the Festival’s New Vision section, a new section for the first and second films of new directors. The other three films will be screened in Pusan’s World Cinema section.

“Telefilm recognizes Pusan as one of the most important international film festivals, and a valuable venue for Canadian filmmakers to showcase their work to international audiences,” said Executive Director Wayne Clarkson. “Participation in Pusan supports our efforts to increase foreign sales, encourage co-production, and raise the profile of Canada’s industry on the international scene, all of which are critically important to building a sustainable, vibrant film industry in this country.”

Through the support of Telefilm’s International Festival Participation Pilot Initiative, key artistic crew and/or sales agents for two of the films to date – Le Ring and Normal – will attend Pusan as part of the films’ international promotional campaigns.
