Canada Feature Film Fund 2007-2008
Telefilm Canada announces funding for 10 new movies
Montreal, February 22, 2007 - In a continued commitment to Canadian cinema,
Telefilm Canada has awarded support for 10 highly promising French-language feature
film productions. Including auteur works, international coproductions, dramas,
comedies, star names and emerging talent, this initial crop of projects for the
upcoming fiscal year is notable for fresh ideas and creative treatments.
"I take my hat off to an industry that never ceases to surprise us,"
said Michel Pradier, Director, French Operations and Quebec Office at Telefilm.
"This time around it has outdone itself by drawing on a highly diverse
array of powerful sources. Moviegoers can look forward to a line-up of exciting
films with themes ranging from serious topics to light-hearted romps. That said,
the overall quality of the submissions and the limits of our budget made the
selection process just as difficult as ever.
"Telefilm continues to work with the Canada Feature Film Fund Working
Group to find new sources of funding. And internally we continue to come up
with innovative ways to help the industry optimize international sales, financing
and coproduction opportunities. The recent success of our presence at the Berlinale
with most notably Perspective Canada_Berlin, which showcased 13 Canadian
films for buyers, shows that we are on the right track."
