Karen Franklin to leave Telefilm Canada in November
Montreal, October 4, 2006 - Telefilm Canada announces that Karen Franklin,
Director of English Operations, will be leaving the Corporation in mid-November.
Karen's hard work and dedication have seen her career at Telefilm evolve from
a Distribution Analyst in 1989 to the Director of English Operations, managing
program budgets in excess of $75 million. Most recently, Karen's on-going commitment
to improving Canadian Feature Film in the English market contributed to the
successful launch of a series of three industry-wide focus groups. Karen has
also facilitated important policy debate with the newly created English Market
Working Group for the Canada Feature Film Fund. She is responsible for having
designed and launched the Theatrical Documentary Pilot Program last year as
a public/private partnership.
"It's been a great adventure - very stimulating and endlessly fascinating,"
said Karen Franklin on her decision and career at Telefilm. "I have met
and worked with a diversity of wonderful, warm, creative and smart people both
inside Telefilm and within the industry - from coast to coast - and have made
some good friends along the way. Now feels like the right time for a change.
I am ready and excited to see what life is like outside Telefilm."
"I have known Karen for many years and have relied on her good advice
and counsel," stated Wayne Clarkson, Executive Director of Telefilm Canada.
"She is respected and appreciated as an intelligent, insightful professional
and has built a reputation for fairness and integrity. Karen has made a long-term
contribution to this organization and the industry at large. I am one amongst
many people here at Telefilm who will miss her and wish her well in her future
endeavours."
