Telefilm Canada’s Executive Director to expand his responsibilities
Montreal, May 16, 2006 - Telefilm Canada's Executive Director, Wayne
Clarkson, is taking on additional feature film responsibilities for the English-language
market. Michael Jenkinson was unable to join Telefilm as its Feature Film Executive
for English-language cinema, as planned, because of unexpected complications
in divesting himself as the CEO of Urban Entertainment.
"Due to unforeseeable circumstances, I have been unable to extricate myself
from obligations to the stakeholders and filmmakers involved in my company,"
said Michael Jenkinson. "It was with much regret that I informed Wayne
Clarkson of the situation."
Wayne Clarkson added: "Michael Jenkinson was our first choice. We were,
as I know he was, looking forward to working together to build audiences for
the English Canadian market. Moving forward, Telefilm's priority to fund the
best English-language films has not changed - which is why I am stepping in
to ensure that decisions continue to be made in a timely manner.
"I will be relying heavily upon the expertise of our regional offices
to bring forward for my approval those projects with the best chances to succeed."
To build success for English-language cinema, Telefilm recently eliminated
application deadlines and replaced a national comparative decision-making process
with an individual position responsible for major feature film decisions.
Telefilm Canada
Telefilm Canada is a federal cultural agency dedicated to the development and
promotion of the Canadian audiovisual industry. Telefilm provides financial
support to the private sector to create Canadian productions that appeal to
audiences domestically and internationally. The Corporation also administers
the funding programs of the Canadian Television Fund.
