Call for TV Drama Projects for Francophone Writers Living Outside Quebec

Telefilm Canada, Radio-Canada and National Film Board of Canada launch 2006 IPOLC competition for production of two short TV dramas

Montréal, May 10, 2006 - Following the first two successful competitions for the production of two short TV dramas, Telefilm Canada, Radio-Canada and the National Film Board of Canada are pleased to renew the experience in cooperation with the Institut national de l'image et du son (INIS), and to support scriptwriting projects from predevelopment through to production.

This competition offers French-speaking writers, directors and producers living outside Quebec the opportunity to hone their skills in the area of television. It is also aimed at expanding the pool of professionals and creators outside Quebec.

The competition is held within the framework of the Interdepartmental Partnership with Official-Language Communities (IPOLC) supported by the Department of Canadian Heritage.

This year's initiative for short drama production includes three stages:

  • Predevelopment of about eight short drama projects, from concept to first draft, including a treatment. This stage is reserved for writers. Those interested have until June 15, 2006 to submit their project(s).

  • Development of four of these eight projects, from first draft to final draft. This stage requires the involvement of a producer. The application deadline is October 23, 2006.

  • Production of two short dramas. The application deadline is February 15, 2007.

INIS will support the selected writers, directors and producers at all stages. Radio-Canada will acquire the broadcast rights to the programs for its national and regional stations. The National Film Board will act as associate producer, and Telefilm Canada will participate as an investor.

Full competition details are available on the Telefilm Canada, Radio-Canada and National Film Board of Canada websites.
