Feature-Length Theatrical Documentary Pilot Program – English-Language Production Component
Telefilm Canada, CBC Television and the Rogers Group of Funds announce results of jury selection

Montreal, February 16, 2006 - Telefilm Canada, CBC Television and the Rogers Group of Funds are delighted to announce that 27, Brad Fox and Sandra Cunningham (Where The Truth Lies, Being Julia), producers; Stuart Samuels, (Midnight Movies, Visions Of Light), writer/director, is the first documentary proposal to be selected to receive production financing from this pilot program.

27 will receive $625,000 to move into production. This amount is made up of equity investments from Telefilm ($250,000), the Rogers Groups of Funds ($125,000), with $250,000 from CBC Television in the form of a license for Canadian broadcast rights. The financiers will work with the experienced production team to maximize the potential for a successful theatrical release in Canada. The release will be promoted on CBC Television, and following the theatrical run, CBC will premiere the film.

27 is about the lost potential of three of the world's most renowned musical talents and tormented souls: Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison, all of whom were dead by the age of 27, and all within 12 months between 1970 and 1971. Told through a mix of original interviews, and set to the incomparable music of the era, 27 is both the story of the death of the 1960s and the story of a generation in retreat.

The decision panel, comprised of Robin Mirsky-Daniels (Rogers), Jerry McIntosh (CBC), Ralph Holt (Telefilm) and Michael Kennedy (Cineplex Entertainment) unanimously selected 27 as the project with the most marked potential to reach a theatrical audience.

The English-Language Feature Length Theatrical Documentary Program is now open to receive applications for a second round of production decisions. One documentary will be selected for production financing in the amount of $625,000. Submissions will be accepted from across the country at Telefilm offices no later than Monday, May 15, 2006.

As part of the pilot documentary program, Telefilm also administers the completion component. This stream is open to proposals from both emerging and established documentary filmmakers and remains open to receive applications. Five to eight documentaries will be selected for completion financing of up to $100,000 each.
Telefilm, CBC and Rogers partnered on this pilot program in June 2005. Eligibility criteria, guidelines and application forms for the Theatrical Documentary Program (production and completion) are available on Telefilm's Website at www.telefilm.ca/theatrical-documentary.

Guidelines for the production component are also available at www.cbc.ca/independentproducers and www.rogers.com/english/aboutrogers/communitysupport/index.html.
