Telefilm supports the 24th Atlantic Film Festival and Strategic Partners coproduction conference

Halifax, September 17, 2004 – Telefilm Canada is proud to continue its support to the Atlantic Film Festival and Strategic Partners. The 24th Atlantic Film Festival (AFF), which runs from September 17-25 in Halifax, will showcase over 223 films from the Atlantic Region, Canada and around the world. Strategic Partners, the annual coproduction conference, will be held September 17-19 in conjunction with the Festival.

“Telefilm Canada is dedicated to developing and promoting the Canadian film, television, new media and music industries at home and abroad,” said Carolle Brabant, Telefilm Canada's Interim Executive Director. “As such, the Corporation is pleased to be a part of the Atlantic Film Festival, which is a true celebration of film. This event plays an integral role in bringing Canadian films to audiences and, through and the Industry Series, the Festival also assists in the development of film and television industry.”

As always, the Atlantic Film Festival spotlights the best that Canadian cinema has to offer. This year over half of its 223 films are Canadian with a large number coming from the Atlantic provinces. The Festival also contributes to the development of the industry through panels, workshops, master classes and seminars offered during the Industry Series and Strategic Partners.

Over the years, the AFF has created an important niche with Strategic Partners, which has become a “can’t-miss” event on the national and international events calendar. Telefilm’s support for Strategic Partners contributes to the professional development of the Canadian industry, providing a forum for players to come together with their international counterparts to discuss issues, and to form partnerships that could potentially lead to inter-provincial and international coproductions.

Coproductions are a key component of Canadian film and television production because they help the industry penetrate new markets and facilitate project financing. As such, Strategic Partners is an important event to the film production community. This year, the conference will build on the successful connections developed between Canada, Ireland, the UK and the US during the 2003 edition.
