Telefilm Canada Supports Four Atlantic Film and New Media Festivals
Halifax, August 27, 2003 – Telefilm Canada is supporting four key Atlantic film and new media festivals this fall. The Atlantic Film Festival, Festival international du cinéma francophone en Acadie, St. John's International Women's Film and Video Festival, and nextMEDIA International New Media Festival all contribute to the strength and viability of the Atlantic film and new media industries.
“We are pleased to continue in our on-going partnership with the Festivals in Atlantic Canada,” said Richard Stursberg, Telefilm Canada's Executive Director. “These events play an important role in enhancing the profile of Canadian films, and contribute to increasing audience awareness of Canadian products in the regions.”
The Atlantic Film Festival (Halifax, Nova Scotia, September 12 – 20, 2003) will continue to build on the success of last year. The 23rd edition of the Festival will showcase some of the finest talent from across the Atlantic Region, Canada and the world. The 2003 Festival Academy Luncheon will feature the CBC’s Laurie Brown in conversation with Telefilm Canada’s Executive Director Richard Stursberg and Serendipity Point Film producer Robert Lantos at noon on Thursday September 18th at the Lord Nelson Hotel. Telefilm is also happy to announce its continued support of Strategic Partners, the annual Coproduction Conference organised by the Atlantic Film Festival Association. The initiative allows Canadian producers, financiers, distributors and broadcasters to explore new partnerships with their US, United Kingdom and Irish counterparts.
Festival international du cinéma francophone en Acadie (FICFA) (Moncton, New Brunswick, September 19 – 25, 2003) celebrates and promotes the Acadian film industry, as well as showcases the significance of the francophone film and television community in the Atlantic Region and around the world. Telefilm Canada is proud to promote distinctive Canadian happenings like the 17th edition of FICFA, which bring audiences together to discover a diversity of compelling French-language works.
St. John's International Women's Film and Video Festival (St. John's, Newfoundland, October15 – 19, 2003), now in its 14th year, is an important exhibition for the promotion and celebration of regional productions. Its unique programming and specialized workshops are designed to facilitate communication between women filmmakers and their audiences.
nextMEDIA International New Media Festival (Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, October 22 – 25, 2003), organized by the Banff Television Foundation, is marking its seventh year. The Festival will be a leading forum and gathering point for new media producers, broadcasters, commissioning editors, buyers and investors from far and wide, as well as will showcase outstanding works, best practices and top talent.
