Telefilm Canada: A Proud Partner in the 2003 Jutra Awards
Montréal, January 28, 2003 – For the fifth straight year, Telefilm Canada will be part of the Jutra Awards, enthusiastically saluting outstanding creations by Quebec filmmakers.
“It is important to recognize and to celebrate the great success achieved by Quebec films over the past year,” says Richard Stursberg, Executive Director of Telefilm Canada. “I want to salute the talented people in the industry who bear testimony to the strength of Quebec films and who have helped make this an exceptional year.”
By taking part in the Jutra, Telefilm Canada contributes to promoting Quebec films, which give audiences stories and images they can relate to. The Corporation is focused on building audiences for Canadian cultural products. This is one of the primary goals of the Canada Feature Film Fund. To that effect, it is interesting to note that the market share of Quebec films rose from 9.6% in 2001 to 12.5% in 2002.
During the 2001-2002 fiscal year alone, the Corporation provided financial support to 37 feature films with combined budgets of over $210 million. Telefilm Canada offers assistance to a wide variety of works by experienced and first-time filmmakers alike.
