Telefilm Canada Launches Pilot Project Supporting Regional Distribution of Films d'auteur

Montreal, November 7, 2001 - Telefilm Canada's Quebec office is pleased to announce the establishment of a pilot project supporting the regional distribution of films d'auteur. This new program, initiated through the Canada Feature Film Fund, is designed to help accelerate and expand the distribution of films d'auteur funded by Telefilm Canada.

As Pierre Even, director of the Quebec office Feature Film Unit, explains, "This Telefilm Canada initiative stems from consultation with exhibitors, producers and distributors wishing to play a more active role in promoting homegrown cinema."

In essence, Telefilm Canada will provide financial assistance to enable exhibitors to purchase film prints and run promotional campaigns tailored to their respective regions. The regional launches must coincide with release in the major centres.

The pilot project is explained in greater detail on Telefilm's website (www.telefilm.ca) in the Canada Feature Film Fund section. Further information can also be obtained by contacting Lise Dandurand at the Feature Film Unit in Montréal.

Telefilm Canada will review and assess this pilot project after the first year of operation.
