Penelope Buitenhuis' breakthrough short Llaw, a diary of the fall of the wall, premiered at the Berlin Film Festival in 1990 to critical acclaim. Soon after, German public television commissioned her first feature, Trouble, followed by the thriller Boulevard (1994) and Dangerous Attraction (1999). Buitenhuis wrote and directed the award-winning NFB documentary, Tokyo Girls, and directed such television series as Cold Squad, Wind at My Back, Kung Fu, and Lonesome Dove and numerous MOWs, including Giant Mine, Lucky Day and Killer Bees. A Wake is her fourth feature film.
