Alexandra Austin, a nine-year-old Romanian girl, was adopted by a Canadian couple. To her, everything seemed wonderful, but after five months she was sent back to Romania. Because of an altered passport, she became "stateless," a person without a country. The terrible mix-up meant Alexandra received no education, no health care and no dignity as a citizen in the country of her birth. Now 22 years old, she attempts to reclaim her identity and salvage some happiness.
