Peanuts

Jock Brandis, visiting a village in Mali, noticed that villagers were growing a lot of cotton. Knowing that cotton, which depletes the soil of nitrogen, could turn their village into desert, Jock encouraged them to grow more peanuts. “But sun-dried peanuts are hard to husk,” they said. “If you grow them, I’ll come back with a machine,” said Jock. Peanuts is the story of Jock’s invention and his return to Mali.
