Mandela's Sash chronicles a pivotal Metis cultural event that took place during South African President Nelson Mandela's visit to Ottawa on September 24, 1998. On that fateful morning, Metis Senator John B. Boucher wrapped a Metis sash around the waist of Nelson Mandela. This event created a burst of national and international media attention which, in turn, instantly illuminated the plight of the Metis Nation of Canada as well as that of all downtrodden peoples around the globe.
