Deviyani, a recent widow, leaves India to live with her son Siddhartha Rao in Toronto. She discovers that his preoccupation with work has alienated him from his Canadian wife, Kylin, and their young son. When a bored Deviyani develops a friendship with Arnold, a charming, lonely Jewish neighbour, Sidd doesn't approve. He's furious when he learns that Arnold is a bookie.
