In 1914, a 14-year-old girl sails with her mother from Fogo, Newfoundland, to start a new life in Patagonia on the southern tip of Argentina. Across the miles and decades, Eliza writes “home” to Fogo, chronicling her adventures, struggles and achievements as she passes from youth to motherhood and on to her 100th birthday without ever losing her vitality or her fascination for the world around her.
