In the final days of the Second World War, 16-year-old Terry Fleming fantasizes about working at the Airlines Hotel in Gander, Newfoundland, an unlikely outpost for pilots, dignitaries and Hollywood stars. When his mother becomes ill and their house is quarantined, Terry’s imagination carries him through, conjuring up stories of intrigue and romance from the world of the hotel. With a war outside and death upstairs, Terry finds the courage to make his mother’s last days their own kind of heyday.
